Also aus der Vogelperspektive gefällt mir die alte PS3 um einiges besser. Alleine der Playstation 3 Schriftzug in Silber gibt so einiges mehr her. Aber in der Frontansicht sieht man erstmal wirklich um wieviel kleiner die neue PS3 ist.

Sieht das eigentlich nur so aus, oder ist die Slim tatsächlich tiefer als die alte PS3?

Bis jetzt gefällt mir meine 60er optisch auch viel besser. Sieht irgendwie schicker aus. Bin mal gespannt wie das Teil real aussieht.
Der einziger Grund zum Wechsel ist der Stromverbrauch und die Lautstärke.
Ne größere Festplatte kommt eh noch in meine 60er.

Es wurde aber nichts wegen der Abwärtskompatibilität gesagt, oder?

At gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. unveiled the new PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, featuring a streamlined form factor with a 120GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD). The new PS3 will be available in stores from September 1, 2009, in Europe/ PAL territories at a very attractive recommended retail price (RRP) of €299.

With the introduction of the new PS3 system, SCEI will also reduce the price of the current PS3 with 80GB HDD to a RRP of €299 from August 19. By launching a vast library of exciting and attractive software titles for PS3 this holiday season and offering customers a line-up of hardware models and pricing to match their preference, SCEI will build on the momentum and further accelerate the expansion of the PS3 platform.

The internal design architecture of the new PS3 system, from the main semiconductors and power supply unit, to the cooling mechanism, has been completely redesigned, achieving a much slimmer and lighter body. Compared to the very first PS3 model with 60GB HDD, the internal volume as well as its thickness and weight are trimmed down to approximately two-thirds. Furthermore, power consumption is also cut to two-thirds, helping to reduce fan noise.

While inheriting the sleek curved body design of the original model, the form factor of the new PS3 system features a new meticulous design with textured surface finish, giving an all new impression and a casual look. With the compact body and casual appearance, the newly introduced model will appeal to a wider audience who are looking to buy the best entertainment system for their home.

Concurrently with the release of the new PS3 system, SCEI will modify the PS3 brand name from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3, and introduce a new logo, which is engraved on the surface of the new PS3 system. By unifying under the familiar PlayStation name, which represents the entire PlayStation family, PS3 together with PlayStation 2 and PSP will further expand the PlayStation business, and will continue to enhance the entertainment experience along with the ever-growing PlayStation Network.

The new PS3 continues to offer the cutting-edge features and functions of the current models, such as the ability to enjoy High Definition Blu-ray Disc (BD) movies and games, as well as various content and services downloadable through the network.

PS3 system software update version 3.00

Yes, we can hardly believe it ourselves, but Sony came a-knockin' at our door today, and we were more than willing to answer. The PlayStation 3 Slim is now official in-house, and it's a matte-laden beaut. Enough chitchat -- live vicariously through our unboxing and hands-on pics below!

Update: Some details for clarification. The buttons in the front are now physical and actually "click" in to function. The PS logo above the disc drive does not rotate for vertical use, and yes, the hard drive is swappable -- as you can see from the pictures, there's a screw on the bottom, hidden by a panel, that lets you take off part of the front for access. We've also lined it up against our standard, fatty PS3, and we gotta say, it's noticeably lighter.

Update 2: Here's a more thorough comparison between the slim, the original, and the Xbox 360. Some people were asking about the texture of the matte finish, and compared to Microsoft's console, it's just a teensy bit rougher (and on that note, about the same weight, too). It's still just as glossy as the original on the sides, however. We still gotta compare the noise of the slim, stay tuned!

Update 3: While our tests were far from thorough, the initial results from our quick-and-dirty decibel ratings show some promise. With a baseline of 49 decibels, the Slim averaged 53 to 56 db when in use / playing a game / installing data (in this case, Metal Gear Solid 4), compared to the 55 to 58 db of the original. Blu-ray movie playback is where it becomes noticeable, as the slim peaked for us at 60 db when the original was doing 70 db running the same disc.

Also eigentlich ist es meiner Meinung nach quatsch, sich die neue PS3 zuzulegen, wenn man die alte bereits hat. Es sei denn, man hat keinen Platz oder man ist sehr Lautstärke-empfindlich. Sonst gibt es keine neuen Features und der gesenkte Stromverbrauch... nun ja. Ich lebe (noch) in einem 1-Personen-Haushalt und zahle im Jahr rd. 300 € Strom. Gesetzt den Fall, 100 € davon wäre die PS3 (was utopisch ist) und die neue braucht 1/3 weniger Strom, würde sich der Kauf erst nach 10 Jahren amotisieren (mit realistischen Zahlen eher noch später).

Obendrein hätte die neue trotz ihrer 120GB weniger Speicher als meine gepimpte dicke Kiste.

So weit zu den rationellen Argumenten, im Bauch regt es sich bei mir aber trotzdem.

Nachdem wohl (?) der RSX und Cell in 45nm verbaut wird, denke ich nicht, dass es Probleme geben wird. Vor allem die wenigen Lüftungsschlitze vorne lassen mich hoffen, dass die Abwärme geringer ausfällt und das Management dieser den Ingenieuren gut gelungen ist.

Eigentlich gibt es keinen Grund oder ein gutes Argument, welches dafür spricht sich als besitzer einer dicken PS3 eine Slim zu holen.
Glaube auch nicht, dass es in dieser Schicht einen messbaren Anstieg verkaufter Slims geben wird. Für Neukäufer natürlich ne feine Sache.

Das Design der Slim finde ich noch ein bisschen furchtbarer, als das der alten. Ich werde daher natürlich auf gar keinen Fall zur Slim greifen. Kenne aber wieder einige, die sich bisher noch keine PS3 zugelegt haben, jetzt aber mit dem Gedanken spielen.

Mein Grund ist ganz pragmatisch:
Eine Garantieverlängerung für wenig Geld (alte geht in die Bucht) - ausserdem erhoffe ich mir, dass die Ausfallraten geringer werden und die verbaute Technik in der Slim im Allgemeinen robuster ausfällt.

Design ist mir erstmal Schnuppe... je kleiner und unauffälliger, desto besser
